When was the last time you wrote a hand-written note to someone?
When was the last time you received a hand-written note?
Not a text, or an instant message or an email, but a hand-written note?
Are they just things of the past?
I don’t think so!
One of the steps I take in continuing to improve my health is to record all the food I eat.
This give me a clear picture of what I’m eating, and it gives me a framework on planning ahead for meals and snacks.
Many people might think that’s too much work! Perhaps, but it’s a definite plus if you’re trying to understand not only the food, but the nutrients that you’re taking into your body. It’s a tool that can be used so you can take control of what you eat.
I also have to say that for me the load is shared.
My biggest supporter in this journey is my husband, Al.
In addition to being the family cook, he packs my lunch in the morning to help me to get out the door for work! (Am I spoiled or what?)
Well, that’s not all he does! He takes the time every morning to write down what he’s packed for my lunch and breakfast so that I can stay on track! (Like I said…spoiled!)
At first the notes were little lists of the contents of my lunchbox.
This was great because it was what I needed to log; but gradually, the notes began to change! You see, Al surprised me by writing notes to me!
Can you imagine the first time I opened my lunchbox, pulled out the food log and saw a note from my husband! I wanted to squeal out loud but being at the office I didn’t do that. I just had a huge smile and nice warm fuzzy feeling that brightened my morning!
Plus, I would smile when I saw the note throughout the day as I logged the food into an app that calculates what I’m eating!
Well, after a week or two I realized I could give my husband a little surprise, too!
I could draw a little picture on the note, or send him a message, too!
Imagine his surprise when he realized I wrote back to him!
Our lunchbox love notes are a regular occurrence now.
It’s a sweet little way for us to demonstrate affection. I know Al took a few moments out of his day to think about me, and I have a lot of fun writing back to him. I’m at the office but I can’t be in a bad mood when I ‘m doing this.
In addition to helping me reach healthy nutrition goals, it makes my mood brighter! This means a shift of perspective during stressful times at work. It’s what I call a brief vacation in the middle of the day.
I’ll close by asking again, when was the last time you wrote a hand-written note to someone? They can be just as relevant today as they were before electronic messages. They are thoughtful and surprising!
Take a minute and surprise someone. Write a love note. Write a thank-you note!
Not only will you feel great – you’ll brighten someone else’s day!
