I recently wrote about the newest little one in our family, Michael.
Here he is with his Aunt Linda. It so happens they share the same birthday!
To welcome him I made a little blanket to keep him warm and toasty when the cooler seasons begin!
Rather than a baby blanket in pastel colors, I opted for a bolder combination of navy blue, brick red and gray; a nice change of pace for a baby blanket!
The blanket measures about 36 inches square.
The blue and red sections use a variation of a shell pattern, while the gray is a basic repeating row.
Combining the patterns in this manner will make the textures in the red and blue sections stand out.
The corners and the borders are simply done.
For the edging I decided to keep it simple! This way the stripes would be the focus!
A little blanket for a little guy!

Did you have a favorite blanket when you were little?
I don’t remember that far back 🙂 but if I had this one, it would be my favorite!
Nice work.
Thanks, Gemma! I don’t remember if I had a specific blanket growing up either…lots of stuffed animals…but no specific blanket! 🙂
Very sweet.
Thanks, Judy!
So sweet!
Thanks, Naomi! Glad you think so!
I like that – it is very pretty. Good job! I did not know you had a crochet blog, I must have missed that, so I am on my way over to visit it.
Thanks, Patty! I don’t post there as often as my main blog, but since I love to crochet I decided to do my best to maintain it!
Hi, Cathy. Your love and affection always shines bright in each post. Baby Michael will feel not only the blanket’s warmth but the love you put into it. Thanks. I nominated you for Capture the Colour. Hope you enjoy it. Best wishes!

Hello Island Traveler! Thanks for this! I’m not sure that I could complete in this time frame but I like the idea that’s behind this! 🙂
Thank you very much for letting me find you =)
And for Sharing ♥
You are most welcome on all counts! 🙂
Beautiful baby and a beautiful blanket! He is adorable 🙂
Hello! He does look like a cutie! I haven’t seen him in person soon, but hopefully soon I will! 🙂
The baby is adorable and the blanket is beautful. I can remember having several lovely crocheted blankets when my children were small that friends and relatives made.
Hi Sheryl! Thanks! I’m sure your friends and relatives had just as much fun making them as I did… then later seeing the reaction when the gift was opened! There’s something very cozy about a handmade blanket! 🙂
I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for a Blogger Award. You can find it here: http://thoughtsfromanamericanwoman.wordpress.com/2012/08/31/blog-awards/
Thanks so much, Patty! 🙂
Looks nice and warm!
I do have a favorite blanket – with car designs of course 🙂
I can see you being very comfy and warm with a car blanket! It must be special! 🙂
Do you have a pattern for this. I have been looking everywhere a pattern like this. I made a blanket similar to yours a few years back and cannot for the life of me remember where I got the pattern from.
Hi Laura! I constructed this as I went along so I don’t have an actual pattern. That being said, if you take a look at my crochet blog perhaps this will help! The two sections are on the easy side. For the shell pattern you may want to try a smaller swatch to see how it repeats. Let me know how it works out! Thanks!
Thanx. I was finally able to find another blog that gave instructions. I kept messing up on the turns and my blanket was lopsided. I took it apart I don’t know how many times. I am alternating this stich and double crochet every row. Thanx for your help. Happy crocheting.
Hi Laura. I’m glad that worked out! Yeah, sometimes you may need to count stitches when you turn the rows! There are times when I still have to take things apart, too! I just try to check my work frequently on certain projects so I can correct my work quickly! Thanks again for stopping by! 🙂
