The Weekly Photo Challenge theme was Indulge.  I thought this was an interesting word because indulging is a very sensory experience.

I chose two very different family pictures that represent simple but pleasurable indulgences.

Here is my father when he was stationed in Germany in the 1950’s. As you can see he is taking a break from his regular duties.  He’s sitting on a desk where there is an empty inbox.

He’s wearing a coat, so the weather may not be freezing, but it is cold. Perhaps the flowers took his mind away from that, if only for a moment.  I love to smell flowers so I can really relate to this picture.  I close my eyes just like he did and take in the scent of something soft and lovely.

I also found a photo that gave me a good chuckle.  How many times have we looked at a mountain of ice cream or some other decadent dessert and thought, “I wish I could just dive into that!  I don’t want to wait – I’m going for it!”

C’mon…admit it…you know you’ve done that!  I’m an admitted chocolate addict, so I know I have!

My niece went for it from the comfort of her high chair and someone was there to catch the moment she indulged!  I can just taste it – how about you?  YUM!!!

I've always enjoyed writing and finally decided it was time to blog! As part of my profession I write every day, but I'm now trying to take the time to write creatively. My family and friends have been very encouraging as there is little that is written down in the way of a family chronicle. This is a favorite topic of mine! In addition to family history, I write about life, family, friends and faith. My husband is a full-time parent to our special needs daughter. I’ve explored this topic, too. I also enjoy music, crocheting, reading and relaxing with my family. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer!

Such an interesting photo of your father! I’m wondering if the word “Incoming” on the box represented something new coming into his life at that point. To do with flowers? Beauty? Peace?

Hello columbibueno! While and inbox is just an inbox, I like to imagine that my dad was thinking about my mom as they were newlyweds when he was overseas. Who knows? Thanks for visiting my blog! 🙂

I love how the photo of your father contradicts macho hero with sensitive fellow! Love it. ~ Kate

Perfect pictures to illustrate “indulge”. Your Dad appears totally immersed in far away thoughts and emotions, and your niece has that same, “I love this” look. Your “indulge” pictures were my today’s indulgence. Thanks! 🙂

    • Cathy G says:

Hi Dor! I’m gald you enjoyed them! My niece laughed when she saw the photo as she was too little to remember it – but she is clearly enjoying herself! Thanks!

Absolutely precious photo, precious. I LOVE old photos, but to know that’s your own father, that’s really special. It’s such a great photo. 🙂

Hello WordsFallFromMyEyes. Thank-you for your lovely comment. To say it is precious, well, that’s really true! I appreciate that you picked up on this. 🙂

  6. Hey Cathy…do you post your photo on the place where the weekly photo challenge word is announced? Every SINGLE week I forget how to get to that spot and go in circles until I find it. I just realized last week that people put a link to their photo there in the comment section. Makes sense! I think that is where I found your awesome blog. ~ Kate

    • Cathy G says:

Hi Katherine! Yes, I try to rememebr to put the link for my post there. I have to admit sometimes I forget then I add it back later! I’ve saved seveal WordPress links as favorites so that I can go over there easily. Another way that I find new posts to read is, when I like a post, I also hover over the icons of other people who like the posts. I’ll read about them and link over to their blogs. I’ve read a lot of really great material that way! Thanks so much for all you feedback!
